HISTORY'S HEROES

History's Heroes Activities Books

Why do most parents tell you they hated history and found it boring? Probably because it was taught in a boring way…tell and regurgitate, read the chapter and answer the questions at the end of the chapter. No wonder history was boring!!!! KONOS History's Heroes Series makes history come alive, enjoyable, exciting, and memorable.

Hands-on American history activities fill approximately 50 pages of each of the 3 History's Heroes Series

  • Explorers Activities Book
  • Settlers Activities Book
  • Revolutionary Activities Book

From the Explorers Activities Book, children learn their constellations by posing in constellation positions, determine their own latitude by building a simple cross staff, make fake marble like Marco Polo reported seeing in China, make a floating compass to test direction, as well as create an Aztec eagle headpiece out of crepe paper while they examine the Aztec culture and belief system…..all this to reinforce the history that they are learning about explorers.

History's Heroes Timeline Characters Books

The symbols on each group of Americans create visual BLOCKS OF HISTORY. For instance, the explorers all have telescopes and flags of the country they sailed for. The settlers all have hatchets as symbols, while the Revolutionary War heroes are in uniform and wear three corner hats. All the Founding Fathers have white wigs, and if they were President, they have a presidential seal. The first timeline Jessica ever designed consisted of paper doll figures (she laminated them when the baby kept taking her art work off the wall and eating it) with these symbols. After all the figures were up on the timeline, eight-year-old Jason stepped back and observed the timeline. "Hum…I see…all the explorers with their telescopes are in the 1400-1500's…all the settlers with their hatchets are in the 1600's and in the 1700's we have three cornered hats for the Revolutionary War and white wigs for Founding Fathers. That's easy enough!" Jessica looked at him in amazement. He was right. Why try to match specific dates you promptly forget when you can learn large concepts that you never forget? He had created blocks of history.
