The rule is teach to your oldest and let the others follow along. Rhett, our 3rd is almost 20 now. He has jumped about all over the place tagging along with his two older brothers, ages 26 and 23. He is
still in his right mind and seems fairly normal! In fact, heaven forbid,
he studied
History of the World Year I after he studied
History of the World Year II with his older brother and
then went back and did History of the World III his senior
year.
Although you have the freedom to start anywhere, we recommend any family with the oldest homeschooler in the family to be in 3rd grade or below to start with
Volume I. You’ll have more activities to choose from in Volume
I.
If you have 4th or above, you could start anywhere. Volume I is still going to be plenty challenging. You might ask for the handout, "What’s covered in
each volume?" which we send with every brochure request. If, for example, you 5th grader just studied early American History last year, then we would recommend starting with
Volume I or III but not Volume II. If he/she hasn’t had the subject yet,
Volume II would be a good place to start.
Some people buy all three books at once and skip from one volume to another. As an example, if Bobby told a lie last night, mom might decide to see if "Honesty" is an included unit. In fact it is, so she plans to do Honesty out of
Volume III next. This is one of the reasons that the KONOS Compass is "essential". Many of the decisions in scheduling units, by weeks, months and years is in the
KONOS Compass . It also has a scope and sequence as well as writing and composition help for mom. |
