What is covered in the Dad’s
DVD?
Dads: The Men in the Gap
Fathers have an awesome responsibility to raise a Godly family and yet,
most churches fail to give them any training in what God’s job
description is for headship in the family. Dads: The Men in the Gap is
a 1-1/2 hour long DVD about the father’s role in the home. Seven
homeschool fathers, real men, discuss a variety of family and child
rearing topics in a lively roundtable format that is very pleasant
viewing. Of course there are a number of soul-searching questions that hit
old dad where he lives. The companion study guide is 45 pages of
encouragement and accountability that will cause any man to contemplate
his responsibilities to his family and to his Lord in a way that is often
talked about but seldom implemented. This video is life-changing,
wife-changing and family building!
Proverbs 29:18 tells us that, "For lack of vision, the people
perish." This video will train men to have the vision and then
implement it. This may be the most important purchase of the year for your
homeschool. Below, please see the Preface right out of the Study Guide.
In the 1950’s and 60’s the majority of the programs on TV depicted
fathers in strong leadership roles. Shows like Father Knows Best, Andy of
Mayberry, My Three Sons, Ozzie and Harriet and Bonanza all depicted dad as
an all-wise, gentle fellow who was the ever-present problem-solver
constantly giving encouragement, counsel, and correction. Although these
dads were not perfect and were not shown to be the spiritual leaders of
the family, the message to Middle America was clear and consistent:
"Dad was the go to guy around the house."
Slowly dad began to lost his pedestal position. With the onslaught of
the women’s movement wives became bread-winners and men lost their last
vestige of leadership in the family as the provider. Men not only lost
that strong leadership role, but they also lost the vision for the job.
There were few, if any, positive role models for the job. Even the church
quit training men to be godly fathers. Many men still have the heart for
the job, but need help in identifying all of the requirements of the
position and knowing what to do, and when to do it.
This DVD and accompanying workbook is an effort to revitalize the
vision, challenging men to consider that their responsibilities are as
leaders in their families and retrain them to prioritize their daily
activities in order to help them become the leaders God has called them to
be.
